I said I wasn't go to write this because it is already very hard to be in the holiday mood. This isn't going to help me get that feeling back. Whether you read as what I have to say as scathing criticism of President Obama or not, I don't care. To be quite frank with you, this administration has no foreign policy, or a very schizophrenic one at best.
I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorist. Really? Well that is what the regime of Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran is. This is the same government which brutally quashed the Iranian Green Revolution. Anybody remember Neda? I do. This is the same regime which holds several Americans in detention on bogus charges. It is the same regime which has propped up the despot Bashar al Assad for years now. It is the same regime which arms Hezzbollah to the teeth, and according to our own government, are terrorist. Hezzbollah which has replaced the wrecked parts of Syria's army. Hezzbollah which along with Syria and Iran destabilizes Lebanon.
Suppose, just suppose we eased sanctions against the Apartheid government of Southern Africa, would that government have capitulated power and allowed majority rule? Or would there have been a bloodbath, and would that pariah of a government still be clinging to power.
Didn't the allies attempt to appease Hitler and his band of Nazis prior to WWII to prevent bloodshed? Didn't we learn from that? Looking the other way all the while as he was violating treaties and arming himself, annexing territory and preparing for war. Secretary of State Kerry and out government are attempting the same thing. How much of the 6 to 7 billion dollars(actually it works out to 15 or 20 billion) we are being told Iran will gain access to will wind up supporting Assad's government?
Don't we appease the North Koreans every year? Of course we do. Every year the North Koreans demand concessions from the us, in terms of food aid or they will restart their weapons programs. And every year we give in, only to go into the same song and dance next year. Strange thing is we know about North Korea's human rights violations and attach nothing to our conditions to prevent that while appeasing them. Strange thing is many people in North Korea still starve to death at the hands of their own regime, but I guess that's okay with us.
The Syria debacle, and that is what it is, has yet to play out. It is a debacle because our government sent a message to Assad it is okay to kill your people, as long as you don't use chemical weapons. You can bomb them, shoot them, torture them, burn them alive, rape them, loot them. But for God's sake don't use chemicals on them. The President speaks out of both sides of his mouth when it comes to no boots on the ground. While he has gotten us out of Iraq, or has he? How many troops do we have in the Green Zone in Baghdad? President Obama is trying to negotiate with the Afghan government to have troops there indefinitely.
I hope and pray I'm wrong and in six months Syria's chemical weapons don't exist. That I am wrong and the Iranian regime has given up it's pursuit of nuclear weapons. That I am wrong and Assad will hand over power to a transitional government and all of the countries in the region can have that kumbaya moment the world longs for. That I am wrong and I can say that President Obama and his administration are foreign policy geniuses Right now I don't see it that way.
