Whatever happened to good manners? I have been to many threads where visitors seem to have forgotten to vote for others comments. Sometimes it should be done out of courtesy, especially when the article in neither political, religious or life changing in anyway. I mean we can to better than this, we are Viners. Really, have you ever been to a thread where everyone is supposedly friends and no one has checked the little icon in the comment above them? I've even seen it used as a passive weapon, as in, I don't like you, even though your on my friends list, so "No Check Mark For You!" This would be akin to being at a social gathering and knowing everyone there, but only saying hello to a few. Remember these check marks earn us those neat little green stars. You know, the kind we use to get in kindergarten for good behavior. Seriously though, the green stars are there for a reason. They denote "positive contribution" to a thread and the community. Some threads the check mark etiquette is in full effect, everyone gets one and no one uses it as a weapon. On some threads there are stars as for as the eye can see.
Then there is the flip side to not giving the check mark. The threads where people are having one massive group orgasm just seeing each others names. They check away regardless of what the comment is. You can tell these threads by the authors first comment informing everyone that this is a "lovefest" so if you are going to disagree don't comment. Yes, even that threatening first comment earns the green star three times over. Usually when I see this I'll just flip my computer screen the bird and move on.
That's about all I wanted to say about check mark etiquette. What do you think?
