Now, Why is it that we(America) are not doing enough to stop the violence in Syria? Why does it seem to me the casualty count is stuck on "5,000" for the last two months? We all know it is over 7,000, with 2000 of that being inflicted since December 1st. Did you know Al Assad means "the lion" in Arabic? Bashar the ophthalmologist, yes he is an eye doctor, is proving to be a despicable coward, a "mama's boy." Anything but a "lion". It has been rumored that "mom" is telling him to be tough, to kill, to protect the family name. This is just ridiculous that the world is afraid of this insignificant little human who feels he is important.
China and Russia hold the world at bay. Hell, Russia even supplies the bullets to continue the onslaught. The Russian ship Chariot has just delivered a suspected shipment of bullets to the Syrian port city of Tartus. Is the crack down that vicious that Syria is actually running low on bullets? Russia presided over the UN Security Council in December and stymied any action by that body. The world is awash with good intentions, countries like Qatar, France, the US and many others want to do the right thing, but are blocked at every angle, every turn. The Arab League has shown good intent, but their observer mission was doomed from the start. You see they basically chose a War Criminal to lead the mission. His name? General Mohammed al Dabi of the Sudan. He has been accused of War Crimes in Darfur. Organizations such as Human Rights Watch, The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights, without both of which we would very much be in the dark. The hactivist group Anonymous is doing its part. The group Avaaz, which has started an on line petition to bring Assad and his thugs up on charges before the ICC. Avaaz has enough of it's own evidence in the form of first hand accounts and interviews of victims. They have also published a list of Syrian detention centers and methods of torture used. Yes, and even the UN and Ban Ki-moon try, only to be frustrated by their own charter.
The Syrian people are brave, beyond brave. They have protested time and time again, buried their dead under sniper fire, received the bodies of their battered and broken children. They have "citizen reported" risking their lives to get the story out. Thay have faced down tank shells, machine gun fire, nail bombs. The Syrian people are as "tough as nails". They deserve our respect, our assistance. We mustn't let these brave people down. It is past time to kick the teeth out of this "lion". As individuals do whatever you must do, write, sign petitions, tell each other that what is going on is not right. Tell everyone who will listen it is our business. But don't just do nothing, especially don't make excuses.
