In addition to the 23 Executive Orders the President Obama signed to rein in gun violence, I would like to suggest suing the gun manufacturers. That's right, sue the manufacturers of the firearms used to kill innocent children on wrongful death charges. In addition to the individuals who committed the murders, hold the gun and ammunition manufactures responsible too. I know it will take years, but eventually it will work and these companies will have to pay dearly. Hit them where it hurts, in their pocketbooks. It took many tries but it worked with big tobacco, who were also in downright denial about what their product did to peoples health. Much like the NRA and GOA is about what guns do to people health.
Find 114 pages of manufacturers here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Firearms_manufacturers_in_the_United_States.
Lets face it, tobacco and firearms are the only two products used as directed that lead to the death of the user or those around them. Just like there is a term "Safe and Sane Fireworks" there should be the same term when referring to firearms.
The President has put forth three major proposals regarding a "Safe and Sane" firearms policy to Congress and the American people.
- Universal Background Checks
- Limit the size of "magazines" to 10 rounds.
- A Ban on Assault Type Weapons
Already the governors of several states and the NRA have balked. Enough is enough. Do whatever you have to to rally around these proposals and make Congress pass them into law. Contact your Senator, your Congressman and tell them enough children have died and it is time to stop the insanity.
I'll end this article on this note. Since January 1, 2013,
4,227 people have been shot in the US
177 of them today.
