Romney's threat to axe funding to PBS, and his direct promise to cut fundingto the children's show Sesame Street was reminiscent of another republican politician. Not since Gerald Ford hinted to NYC that he would not save the struggling city from bankruptcy in the 1970's, has a politician been so ridiculously blunt and misguided in proposed budget cuts. Ford's blunder led the New York Post to run the banner headline, Ford To New York: Drop Dead! Romney's cold and callous remarks reminded this journalist to in a sense, resurrect that headline. I mean you really have to have a pair to want to whack Big Bird.
So this is not so much an article as an observation. Any politician who wants to cut funding to one of this countries most independent networks has something to hide. Remember the line, "Thank God for PBS"? I do, it is a distant memory but one that still rings true. Politicians should know better than to threaten PBS, for if their funding was to come from all private donors they would have absolutely nothing to lose when dealing with people like Romney.
