Assad has made fools of the world once again. As Tuesday dawned in Syria, it had become clear that Assad had not complied with a Kofi Annan's internationally endorsed peace plan. His armor remains in the cities, his artillery still pounding civilian neighborhoods, his troops and mukhabarat(secret police) still killing with impunity. He was to withdraw all troops and armor, followed by a cease fire by the Free Syrian Army(FSA) two days later. On Sunday, Assad added conditions demanding the FSA in effect surrender. He demanded that the FSA hand over all weapons, the FSA and opposition groups refused. It was becoming increasingly obvious this past week that no troop draw downs were taking place, instead his military stepped up it's assaults on a defenseless civilian populace.

Since Assad had agreed to a ceasefire with Annan, more than 1,000 Syrians have been killed by his forces. In the north, the city of Idlib, in central Syria, Homs, Hama and Rastan, in the south Daraa, all have been pummeled by tank fire, mortars, heavy machine guns. From suburbs of Damascus, to the city of Aleppo, Assad's forces have stepped up the relentless attacks. To put it bluntly, it is a blood bath, and a one sided one at that, not a cease fire. This is systematic murder, an attempt to wipe out anyone who opposes Assad. This is genocide.

Take the city of Homs for example. Most westerners believe the killing ended with the fall of the Baba amr neighborhood. Not even close to the truth. The shells have never stopped falling on sections of Homs. Once Baba amr was obliterated, its population laid waste to, Assad just turned his shells on other sections of the city. Homs has been under siege since May of 2011, and artillery has rained from the sky since early February of this year. Just last week, FSA forces took control of the National Hospital. In it's refrigerators were the tortured mutilated bodies of 78 civilians. Hospitals have become torture centers, they are were the wounded are brought to finish off, to torture and kill. In my book Asma al Assad, the president's wife, has earned the moniker of the "Bitch of Homs". This is after all, the birth place of both of her parents.

On Tuesday, Syrian troops fired across the borders of Lebanon and Turkey at fleeing FSA members. Susan Rice, US ambassador to the UN, had said earlier "the proof will be in Assad's actions, not words." She had the foresight to know he was using this peace proposal to buy time. "He has a proven track record" at that, she said in reaction to is promise to withdraw troops on April 4TH. According to analysts, "it is becoming increasingly clear that air strikes are a very real possibility" to stop Assad.
