Yesterday in Egypt, Tahrir Square, hundreds of troops armed with electric batons descended on dozens of unarmed protesters. Beating the protesters and tearing down tents in the make shift camp and clearing the square. This violent action brought to an end the peaceful protest and occupation that lasted several weeks. The military continues it's crack down on pro-reform demonstrators.
While in Syria in the city of Hama the military continued it's brutal two day assault on the people. Using tanks and indiscriminately firing on anyone who took to the street. President Assad has stepped up the violence against the peaceful demonstrators across the country. Tanks were stationed outside of some hospitals and fired on anyone attempting to bring or treat the wounded. Bodies were being dumped in the Orontes river from a bridge by Syrian security forces. The people of Hama are being systematically murdered. With little more than sticks and stones to resist it is turning into slaughter. President Obama has called the recent violence "horrific." Russia has weighed in against its ally calling the violence "unacceptable."
Ramadan has begun and with it daily protest are expected to continue all month long. Over 1600 people have been killed according to human rights groups. More than 3,000 are listed as "missing" and more than 10,000 have been arrested since protests started over four months ago.
