Oslo was the victim of a terror attack today. Several government buildings, including one that houses offices of the Prime Minister were rocked by a huge explosion which shook buildings and blew out windows as well as started small fires. It is unclear what type of explosive device was used, whether it was a car bomb or some other type of bomb. The main target appeared to be a 16 story government ministries building. At least 7 people were killed in the attack with dozens injured. More are reported trapped in the debris. Casualties could have been much worse but today was a holiday in Norway.
Also, there was an attack on a youth summer camp by an individual dressed as a police officer. Initial reports have placed casualties between 10 and 30 youths killed by gun fire. The camp is located on an island situated about about 45 minutes away from Oslo. Norwegian officials are now saying that both the bombing and the shooting are connected. The shooter is in police custody. He is described as tall, blonde hair and having Nordic features.
This is a developing situation and events are still unfolding. Authorities are urging people not to jump to conclusions regarding these attacks. Reports are now coming in of police searching the waters around the island for victims.
